Stop water vending machines
Schools will also need to play a role in our solution. Schools can help by selling reusable water bottles with their team logo on them. This would help them raise money and stop the use of plastic bottles. School boards can also ban vending machines that sell plastic bottles and replace them with other things such as chocolate milk machines. Chocolate milk is better for the environment and healthier for us. It would eliminate the use of plastic and replace it with more biodegradable paper. In Waterloo, Ontario, consumers have mostly switched to tap water because of the ban on bottled water sales in school. Teachers are promoting it and installing within the students the idea that their future depends on the earth's survival and to ensure that, they need to be as eco-friendly as possible. Once kids start to learn about this idea, they will concern themselves more with other aspects of the environment as well. This creates a future generation of people that care more about the environment and helps the earth even more.
Schools in the Toronto Catholic District School Board are banning bottled water sales. They are installing more water fountains and are trying to make a difference in this global issue. They have created Bottled Water Free Zones and have helped convince other places to do so as well. In the following video, we take a look at their commitment to the project and at what they are trying to achieve.
